Daniel Morris: whale control

Dash's and my first pilot night with the 16-channel Open BCI Cyton + Daisy, feat. the stellar lucid dreamer, my friend and lab-mate Daniel Morris!

We used a new 16-channel Open BCI to record sleep data, and SMACC (Sleep Manipulation And Communication Clickything; https://github.com/remrama/smacc) to test presenting sounds during sleep, and LabStreamingLayer to store the sound presentation data in the EEG data.

Daniel took Galatamine at 4:30am and returned to sleep for an epic lucid dream with signals!

I wore the Muse headband and took a Mugwort tincture during my wake back to bed, but the headband couldn’t get a good signal that night and I didn’t have any lucid dreams anyway, oh well!

Technical successes:

  • Recording quality was great!

Technical problems we faced:

  • Still working to make a version of SMACC for Dash’s and my Mac computers

  • We tried to power the computer with a separate battery to avoid artifacts from electricity, but the battery didn’t charge the computer. Thus, we kept the computer plugged in until we woke up at 4am, and only recorded EEG after that
